Kununurra Reimagined is being delivered in stages – from planning through to implementation.

A 12-month program of surveys, forums and workshops shaped the Town Centre Masterplan and early foreshore ideas.
Early 2026

Town Centre Masterplan complete

The Town Centre Masterplan is finalised and ready for implementation.

Foreshore planning continues

Draft designs are developed, tested with the community and refined into a final Foreshore Masterplan and Development Strategy.

Funding and delivery planning

The focus shifts to securing funding and preparing for staged delivery of priority projects.

Where are we now?
Our draft Masterplan is to be endorsed from Council. We are now working with State and Federal Government partners to secure investment and bring the first stages to life.

KUNUNURRA REIMAGINED?
About Kununurra Reimagined
Kununurra Reimagined is a project to plan the future of Kununurra’s town centre and Lake Kununurra foreshore.
It was created by the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley as a dedicated, community-facing engagement project to bring people into the process and make it easier to get involved.
The project brings together the community, local organisations and government to decide what should change, what should stay the same, and how we make these places better for everyday use.
The result will be two investment-ready masterplans – clear, long-term plans to guide future improvements and help secure funding to deliver them.
Who is leading the project?
Kununurra Reimagined is led by the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley.
To guide the project, the Shire established a formal steering committee with:

East Kimberley Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EKCCI)

Kimberley Development Commission
This committee works together to help shape the project, ensuring it reflects local priorities, cultural knowledge and regional needs.
We’re working with Hassell Studio, a leading Australian urban design and landscape architecture firm, to deliver the project. They were appointed through a competitive public tender process. They bring experience from similar regional projects and will visit Kununurra to work on-site and engage with the community.
Who is funding it?
Kununurra Reimagined is supported by State and Federal Government funding.
This includes:

$327,500 from the State Government through the Kimberley Development Commission.

$2 million from the Federal Government for the Lake Kununurra Foreshore Redevelopment Masterplan.
This funding allows us to develop a connected strategy for both the town centre and the foreshore, so everything works together.
Further funding will be needed to deliver the projects identified in the masterplans.
