Frequently asked questions
The Town Centre Project is a collaboration between MG Corporation, Kimberley Development Commission, the Shire and East Kimberley Chamber of Commerce.
The Shire is leading the project and sharing information with the community. We’ve engaged planning consultants Hassell to run community forums and design surveys for you to share your vision for a reimagined Kununurra.
We went through a competitive public tender process and appointed Hassell Studio, one of Australia’s leading urban design and landscape architecture firms. They bring experience from similar projects in regional towns across Australia, and they’ll be visiting Kununurra several times to work on-site and meet the community.

We’re working closely with local partners like MG Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Development Commission to make sure it reflects local priorities and delivers results.
They’re both important. Traffic and access are being considered as part of this broader planning work, including how people move through town and connect with key locations. The foreshore is one of Kununurra’s most iconic assets, this is about making sure it’s accessible, safe and enjoyable for everyone, while tying it in with the town centre.
